What your club software really costs you

A commission rate tells you almost nothing until you know what it includes. This tool adds up the four items that make up an invoice — the subscription, extra services, the commission, bank fees — and brings them back to your volume. You enter your current contract on one side; ours is already on the other, exactly as published on our pricing page.

Nothing to leave to see the result: no address, no phone number, no account. The figures stay in your browser.

What is billed as a flat fee

As long as this column is at zero, it claims nothing. Fill it in with your contract and your latest fee invoice to hand.

excl. VAT

What your contract says. Zero if you can leave whenever you like.

Extra services
One-off costs
Set-up, data migration, hardware, training — anything that does not come back every month.

What is taken from your takings

A payment provider’s public rates, for reference. If what is recharged to you is well above these amounts, it is no longer a recharge.

These fees may also appear on no invoice at all: the provider withholds them from the payout, and your club receives a transfer that has already been cut. The only place they show is your statement — compare, over a month, what your players paid with what actually reached your account.

What your players pay

Zero if there is no cap.

What the platform takes from your player, on top of the court price. A fee scale often combines a percentage and a fixed part; the cap, if there is one, stops the total. Zero if there is no fee.

On top of those above: paid, then cancelled. 0 per month.

One invoice for the year. If you leave part-way through, the balance is refunded pro rata, minus 2 months.

A premium service or custom development can carry its own commitment (12 months). It is then written into your quote.

What is taken from your takings

The tier matching 350 online sales per month. Our scale runs from 4% to 2.4% excl. VAT; it applies as soon as your volume justifies it.

Bank fees and Stripe payout fees included, whatever the payment method — card, Bancontact, Apple Pay, Google Pay. Nothing is recharged to you on top, and there is no payment-provider statement to reconcile.

Fill in the left-hand column to see the difference. Three values are enough: the subscription, the percentage taken, and whether that percentage includes bank fees.

The other half of the calculation

Software is a cost. A directory that brings you players pays for itself. Our club pages are public, your tournaments are visible there and take online registrations, membership fees are paid there — all bookings that did not exist before.

The method

Three values to note down, six questions to ask

What to open

Your contract and your latest fee invoice. Three values are enough to fill in the left-hand column: the subscription amount, the percentage taken from your takings, and the answer to one question — does that percentage include bank fees, or are they billed to you separately?

If you cannot find the answer to the third, that is already a result: ask your software provider, and compare what is recharged to you with your payment provider’s public rates. Any difference is no longer a recharge.

Open a third document too: your payout statement. A cost can appear on no invoice at all — because it is withheld by the payment provider before the money reaches your account. It then adds up to nothing: it is simply missing. Take one month, compare the total collected from your players with the amount actually transferred, then subtract what your software provider invoiced you separately. Whatever is left, if anything, is the item nobody ever showed you.

The six questions

  • Can I see the price without talking to a salesperson?
  • Does the advertised rate include bank fees, or are they billed on top?
  • Do my players pay fees on top of the court price?
  • Can I export my database and communicate under my own name?
  • What response time am I guaranteed, and in which language?
  • What do I get back the day I leave?

Ask them of every provider, SportFinder included. Our answers are on the pricing page and on the switching software page.

Not just software

Software is a cost. A directory brings you players

Your club can be found

Your club page is public and your free slots are visible on it. A player looking for a court near them finds you without knowing you — and when they book, they become a contact in your database, not a platform’s user.

The club directory

Your tournaments fill themselves

A published tournament is visible to players who are not yet at your club, and registration happens online, payment included. No more lists in a group chat, no more chasing people to pay, no more spreadsheet kept by hand.

Tournament management

Affiliation is paid online

Members pay their affiliation from their own screen, as they sign up. It is not one more line on an invoice: it is a till that no longer needs keeping, and a club secretary who no longer chases subscriptions.

Memberships & federations

None of these three lines has an amount in the comparator, and that is deliberate: we do not know what they will bring you, and an invented figure would be worth nothing. What the comparator can do, on the other hand, is the reverse calculation — it tells you how many bookings brought in would be enough to cover what we cost. The rest we work out together, on your data.

The limits of the exercise

What this calculation does not tell you

A cost comparator compares invoices. It ignores three things, and they are often the most expensive:

  • What does not go through the software. Lesson courses taken on a form, camps on a QR code, the membership card sold at the bar, the deposit taken on site. None of it costs any commission — it costs hours of admin and places left empty.
  • The cost of running two schedules. When the same courts live on two platforms, double entry and slots blocked twice appear on no invoice.
  • Set-up costs. Set-up, data migration, access control hardware: one-off costs, separate from the subscription, that have no place in a monthly calculation.

And it says nothing about what a slot engine fills in your off-peak hours, nor what an activity brings in once it becomes bookable. That cannot be guessed from a form: we work it out with you, on your data, during the demo.

Frequently asked questions

On the cost of club software

How do you calculate the real cost of club software?

By adding up four items, not one: the subscription, the services billed on top, the commission taken from your takings, and bank fees — whether they are included in the advertised rate or recharged separately. Then relate that total to the volume you actually collected: it is the only figure that lets you compare two offers presented differently.

Why should you check whether bank fees are included?

Because two offers with the same advertised rate can cost very different amounts. A rate advertised excluding bank fees is topped up by an invoice from the payment provider, often on a different document and on a different date — few clubs add the two together. The comparator asks the question with a tick box: untick it and you see what those fees add, at your volume.

Can a cost appear on no invoice at all?

Yes, and it is the item most easily missed. A subscription and a commission arrive on invoices; the payment provider’s fees, however, can be withheld from the payout — the club receives a transfer that has already been cut, with no document to show for it. Adding up your invoices is therefore not enough: you need to compare, over a month, what your players paid with what actually reached your account, then deduct what your software provider invoiced you separately. At SportFinder, this case does not arise: bank fees and Stripe payout fees are included in our commission, and there is no payment-provider statement to reconcile.

What is SportFinder’s commission?

From 4.0% to 2.4% excl. VAT, plus €0.25 per online transaction, bank fees and Stripe payout fees included whatever the payment method. The rate comes down in tiers according to your online sales volume, and it applies as soon as your volume justifies it. The full scale is published on our pricing page.

Do my players pay fees on top of the court price?

No. The price you display is the price your player pays: no service fee, no cancellation fee. It is the only “0%” we claim, and it concerns your players. Your club, for its part, does pay us a commission — it is in the comparator, where it belongs.

How long am I committed to SportFinder?

No fixed term, on either plan. On monthly billing, you leave whenever you like. On annual billing — the cheaper option — the year is settled in one invoice, but it does not tie you in: if you leave part-way through the year, the balance is refunded pro rata, minus 2 months. That is the only amount you do not get back. One exception, and it is written into your quote: a premium service or custom development can carry its own 12-month commitment. The comparator asks for the term stated in your current contract so that you can set the two side by side.

What does the directory change in the calculation?

Software is a cost; a directory that brings you players pays for itself. Your club page is public, your tournaments are visible there and take online registrations, affiliation to your federation is paid there. The comparator does not claim to know how many bookings that will bring you — nobody knows until they try. It calculates the reverse: how many you would need each month to cover what we cost. That is a figure you can judge for yourself.

Can the comparator come out in favour of my current software?

Yes, and it will say so. At low online volume, an offer with no subscription can cost less than ours: the comparator shows the difference as it falls. The next question is then the gain — what fills your quiet hours during the day and what activities that are sold nowhere today would bring in. That one is worked out in a demo, on your data.
